New Fellows
CMAA Names Five Fellows at National Conference
McLean, VA - Five professional Construction Managers were named Fellows of the Construction Management Association of America at CMAA’s just concluded National Conference in San Antonio, TX.
The Fellows designation is one of CMAA’s highest honors, conferred upon industry leaders who have made significant contributions to their organizations, the industry and their profession. The goals of the CMAA College of Fellows are to represent a diverse community of thought leaders who lend their knowledge and insight to the strategic issues facing the industry and profession, and to identify and develop future leaders association leaders.
The new Fellows, introduced at CMAA’s Industry Recognition Dinner on September 14, are:
Gary Berman, President of GREYHAWK North America.
Mr. Berman has served on CMAA’s Board of Directors and the Board of Governors of the Construction Manager Certification Institute, and helped create CMAA’s popular CM eJournal. He is a licensed professional engineer with more than 25 years experience in structural design, construction management, dispute resolution and related areas. He has made numerous speeches and written articles on Construction Management.
George Heery, Chairman and CEO of Brookwood Program Management.
Mr. Heery was a true pioneer of Construction Management, literally helping to create a new profession. As early as the mid 1960s, he was one of a handful of American design and construction professionals who led the development of construction management and program management. He also helped develop the influential Bridging Concept, which has been widely embraced by owners, project managers and architects and has saved time and money for scores of projects.
Joseph P. McAtee, Executive Vice President of Urban Engineers.
Mr. McAtee has served on CMAA’s Board of Directors, the CMCI Board of Governors and as Chair of the Quality Committee, helping to promote greater professionalism. He has also conducted in-depth research and written widely on Construction Management. During his thirty year career with Urban, he has served as a design engineer, construction manager, resident engineer, project manager, and project director on over $1.5 billion worth of highway and other heavy construction projects.
Bruce Palmer, CCM, Senior Vice President at United Properties Construction Management.
Another veteran of both the CMAA and CMCI Boards, Mr. Palmer has also served as chair of the Professional Development Committee, a key position in which he has helped increase the continuing education opportunities available to the profession, and to promote ongoing improvement in professional practice nationwide. Since joining United Properties in 1981, he has supervised the significant growth of its Construction Division. He has also remained active both in CMAA and in the Minnesota Chapter.
Thomas Quaranta, Vice President of the Program and Construction Management Practice and DMJM+Harris.
Mr. Quaranta has edited The Owners’ Guide to Construction Management and been a long-time leader of the Metropolitan New York/New Jersey Chapter, which was recognized as Chapter of the Year during his stewardship. He has also taught at Columbia University, and has served CMAA as its president as well as on the Board of Directors. Tom has been involved with CMAA since 1988 and helped launch the association’s first scholarship programs. He earned CMAA’s National Service Award in 1997. The new honorees bring the total membership of the CMAA College of Fellows to 29. They were inducted during the CMAA Industry Recognition Dinner on September 14.
CMAA’s Annual Conference was held on September 12-14 at the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk Hotel in San Antonio, TX.
