Record Number Honors
Record Number of Projects Vies for Honors in Construction Management Excellence
Entries in CMAA Awards Program Have Doubled
McLean, VA - Participation in the Construction Management Association of America’s annual Project Achievement Awards has more than doubled since 2000, and this year nearly 70 projects will vie for recognition of outstanding accomplishment in ten areas.
In 2000, 35 entries were received for the awards program. This number grew to 43 the next year, 52 in 2002 and 63 in 2003. As of the July 1 entry deadline, nominations for the 2004 program stood at 68.
The CMAA Project Achievement Awards program is designed to recognize and promote professionalism and excellence in the management of the construction process. Awards recognize publicly and privately owned projects in four budget ranges, plus a Program Management award and an award for the International Project of the Year. They will be announced at CMAA’s Annual Conference in San Antonio on September 12-14.
“We believe excellence in Construction Management is nothing new, but the growing enthusiasm for our Project Achievement Awards is an important development,” says CMAA executive director Bruce D’Agostino. “These projects showcase the best of the profession, and play a key role in showing the construction community at large how much CM can contribute to successful projects.”
In evaluating entries, the Awards Committee considers project outcomes, overall project management, safety, quality, cost, schedule, project complexity, innovation and creativity, and customer satisfaction as key criteria.
D’Agostino also notes that the increased participation in the awards program reflects the dramatic growth in CMAA’s membership over the same time period, from 957 members in 2000 to more than 2,500 now. “We’ve not only added many new members, but members who are actively interested in association programs and eager to take advantage of recognition opportunities like the Project Achievement Awards,” D’Agostino says.
