Prior to the advent of the professional construction manager, design professionals traditionally lead the administration of construction contracts. However, more owners are now engaging independent professional construction managers to provide the services formerly provided by design professionals. A clear definition of which services can be provided by a construction manager and which services must continue to be provided by the design professional is necessary to avoid liability and practicing outside the lines established by licensing agencies. This presentation will discuss how these definitions are to be incorporated in contract documents for independent construction management services and strategies for delivering projects without crossing the lines.
