CM Roles and Responsibilities: A Practical and Legal Perspective on CM Risk

Thursday, October 9
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

The webinar features Cohen Seglias Partner, Shawn Farrell (construction attorney), and HKA Partner, Michael Griffin (a CM and CMAA Fellow), who will discuss the roles and responsibilities of construction managers (CMs) from a risk perspective. The program will cover important practices for avoiding costly delays, maximizing budgets, and maintaining scope control. It will discuss core management functions such as planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling, as well as highlight examples of CMs troubleshooting real-time jobsite issues and adjusting strategies on the fly due to various owner-side and contractor-related failures.

From a legal perspective, the webinar will discuss the expanding legal landscape for CMs, including their liability in areas such as value engineering, design phase input, contractor coordination, and standard form contracts through case studies illustrating the potential legal risks and consequences for CMs when their duties overlap with those of architects or general contractors. The goal of this webinar is to offer practical insights into effective project execution, risk management, and legal responsibilities.
