Keynote Plenary: What Will You Do With Your One Wild and Precious Life
What does it mean to be brave and to make a change without knowing all the possibilities? At some point each of us has (or will) faced a moment of transition; a time when the pressures to make a significant change outweight the pressure of the known. In this conversation, Sally Bergesen, founder of Oiselle, and principle at Chief Bird, LLC, will share her stories of facing these moments and how she made difficult decisions that led her to where she is today.

Closing Session (Lunch): What’s Next?
CMAA is always looking ahead. What challenges to members face? How are CMAA, CMCI, and the CMAA Foundation uniquely positioned to respond? We can’t do this without feedback from you. In the final closing session, CMAA’s volunteer leaders invite you to share your perspective on two questions:
What can CMAA, CMCI, or the CMAA Foundation do to contribute to your success as a program and construction management professional? What can CMAA, CMCI, or the CMAA Foundation do to contribute to your success as a volunteer?
Khaled Naja, PE, CCM – Chair, CMAA Board of Directors
Harrison Staley, CCM – Chair, CMCI Board of Governors
Joni Fournier, CCM – Chair, CMAA Foundation Board of Directors
Andrea S. Rutledge, CAE – CMAA President and CEO

Presenting with Impact
(two sessions; seating is limited to 20 participants per session and preregistration is required)
When you think about effective and inspirational presenters you can probably identify traits and techniques as to why those individuals made such a lasting impact on you. Did you ever wonder why? The short answer is the presenter’s preparation. The comprehensive answer consists of multiple variables including the message being conveyed, the relevance of the topic, the presenter’s delivery skills, rehearsal, and yes, even previous failures. This workshop, grounded in educational psychology, will provide you with the foundation to frame and organize your message so that it will more fully resonate with your audience. Equally appropriate for the most practiced presenter, and for people who are either inexperienced or terrified presenting to an audience, this workshop will provide you with tools and techniques to become a more confident and capable presenter.
C.J. Everett

Planning | Strategic and Succession
What’s next? That’s one of any organization’s persistent questions. And it is often followed by “who’s next?” Strategic planning is the art and science of looking ahead, setting objectives, and then framing a set of activities designed to achieve your objectives. Succession planning is the equally complex question of identifying and developing the talent your organization needs in the future. Join members of the CMAA Board of Directors to learn more about both.
Carol Holland, PE, CCM – Vice Chair, CMAA Board of Directors
Christine Oates, CCM – Immediate Past Chair, CMAA Board of Directors

Chapter Governance and Management
We’ve all been there: budgets and accounting, deciphering the in and outs of federal and state compliance, including the 990, checking IRS status, and state annual reports. And there’s more. Chapter management isn’t just about the finances, it is also about data integrity, list management and website security. And in order to manage all that, you also need to manage the board. This session will be a lightning round of best practices for financial management and operations, board and volunteer management, and governance.

In this session, chapter leaders from CMAA Indiana, CMAA North Texas, and CMAA Arizona will share “how they did it.” From registration to catering to marketing to accounting for the money after the fact – come and learn how you can make it work for you.

Demystifying Fellowship
The Fellows designation is one of the highest honors that CMAA can bestow on an individual. Their mission is to represent a diverse community of industry leaders who lend their knowledge and insight to the strategic issues facing the industry and the program and construction management profession; to identify and assist in the development of future leaders; and to take an active role in the mission of CMAA. The Fellows instituted a new, two-phase process for preparing and submitting nominations in 2024. Join the leaders of the Fellows to learn more about the new process and about how chapters, committees, and other volunteers can play a role in identifying and encouraging future CMAA Fellows.

When the Best Answer is “No”
Someone once said that stress is the body’s reaction to the moment when your mouth says, “Yes!” and your brain says “No!.” We’ve all been there: feeling compelled to say yes to a request for our time or energy and also wanting to say, “I’d rather not;” believing that we owe someone an explanation for our choices and then worrying that our reasons will seem inadequate or, worse still, will have negative consequences. Join others in a conversation about acknowledging the pressure, being honest with ourselves about priorities and commitment, and saying “no” with confidence.
Andrea S. Rutledge, CAE – CMAA President and CEO
